Review: Human Concepts OrgPlus 7 chart organisation software
OrgPlus takes over where programs like Powerpoint and Visio leave off, providing not only tools to draw complex organisation and other hierarchical charts but adding a host of data import, publishing and automation facilities. You can also perform spreadsheet-like calculations on the data, choose how to display it, create and link to sub-charts and so on to create all kinds of things from company structures to phone lists, salary tables and other documents. PC Plus: Drawing tools in OrgPlus 7 are fairly standard and very easy to use
There's no point denying it, at first glance, creating an organisational chart doesn't seem to be the greatest of graphical challenges. Draw one box at the top for the managing director, a row one level down for the other directors, and then just paste everyone else into their relative departments. It's all so straightforward... isn't it? Of course, when you're tasked with creating a chart and it has hundreds of boxes rather than five or six, and you need to share it with others, and maintain it over time with the minimum of hassle, then you realise this isn't such an easy task after all. Satisfying all these extra real-life requirements has so far earned OrgPlus over half a million customers, but does that mean version 7 is worthy of your cash? We decided to take a closer look. Steven Hemsley investigates how technology such as OrgPlus is being used for HR resourcing programmes
The supplier's technology must be able to integrate with equipment running any functions that remain in-house. Glasgow-based telecoms company THUS, an offshoot of Scottish Power, decided to contract out its payroll and expenses processing but needed to ensure that Northgate HR's software would link with its SAP system. Catriona Gemmill, head of HR corporate services at THUS, also wanted to speed up the reporting process and have quicker access to the payroll data that would be handled by Northgate HR using its modular technology, ResourceLink Enterprise. HR staff use passwords to access information on employees stored in databases held in-house or externally. A tool called OrgPlus, from workforce modelling business HumanConcepts, takes information from SAP and displays it in simple charts, using a web browser, for clients' nonHR staff, such as line managers, who regularly need to access the information but are not proficient with SAP. CRN: Gaining capital in HCM sales
Human Capital Management can offer lucrative opportunities for channel players, but skilling up is a must, writes Gareth Kershaw. One of the regrettable, but unshakeable ironies about technology is that it seems to work just fine until people come along and mess it all up. And that is just the IT department. Heaven forbid any users should get involved. More »

PC Advisor: OrgPlus pretty much has the organisational-chart market wrapped up

Veterans of Microsoft Office will already be familiar with OrgPlus. The software giant licensed earlier versions of the program to add organisational chart-making capabilities to its flagship office suite.
These days, OrgPlus pretty much has the organisational-chart market wrapped up. The reason for this is that, while it may look like a simple drawing tool, it's actually much more. Plenty of people might make do with Visio or PowerPoint for these tasks, but because of its specialisation, OrgPlus is much easier to use. More »
