The UK's largest commercial TV network tracks departmental changes and keep workforce records current using OrgPlus from HumanConcepts. ITV plc broadcasts television programmes that make a significant contribution to the UK's culture, economy and communities.

Managing an extensive organisation
The organisation employs hundreds of staff across England & Wales, managed by its own HR community. Like many large organisations, ITV has daily workforce changes to manage, including new recruits, secondments, and internal departmental changes.

To assist with the management of its organisational structure, ITV's Group HR Director, Andy Doyle, and his team recently implemented OrgPlus. "We knew that we had a gap in our management information," explains Andy Doyle. "OrgPlus was recommended as a cost effective, flexible solution to help us manage our staffing charts. In such a large organisation, it has proved invaluable to help us track departmental changes and keep up to date records."

Easy to read chart formats
OrgPlus was supplied and implemented by specialist IT reseller, SJH Charting, along with initial set up and training. Having made the decision very quickly to purchase OrgPlus, the HR team was up and running within just two days.

The HR team uses OrgPlus for its published organisation charts, as well as for manipulating staff data. With OrgPlus, workforce data is displayed visually in a chart format allowing the team to identify department costs, review functional roles, monitor the implications of moving staff and evaluate transitions by comparing before and after scenarios.

"We use the vanilla charts to publish our organisational structure. Because OrgPlus is a very intuitive tool, it allows us to easily model complex scenarios and display the information in an easy to read format," said Doyle.

Linking to main HR data
The HR team has linked OrgPlus with its Oracle HRMS (payroll) system, which provides the key HR data. Using OrgPlus has highlighted to managers where there may be differences in the main HR organisational charts and the charts that they maintain themselves, making it easier to see where data is incorrect or missing, and correct or fill in the gaps.

"We often find that managers maintain their own charts that bear no relationship to the hierarchy in our core Oracle HR. With OrgPlus, managers are now more disciplined in keeping their workforce changes current thus ensuring accuracy in our main HR system," said Doyle.

Since implementing OrgPlus, the HR team has much better control of the workforce data. With OrgPlus, changes can be made very quickly, ensuring that all working documents are up to date. The HR team is able to display management hierarchies, analyse employee skills and understand workforce metrics and analytics quickly.

Return on investment
"OrgPlus is a relatively low IT investment compared to many of our other IT systems. Because OrgPlus was so fast to implement and use, it has already provided a great return. We can now rely on the workforce data that we have and can make more informed recommendations and decisions," said Doyle.
