OrgPlus 8 – Sending chart to OnDemand

Overview

It is certainly our intent at HumanConcepts to continue to develop and offer excellent org chart visualisation, planning, and decision making products. We have heard the voice of the market regarding a Web-based version of our industry-leading OrgPlus Professional product. We are pleased to offer that now, in the form of OrgPlus OnDemand. We continue to build out the functionality of OnDemand to "catch up" to the full-featured, robust, and mature OrgPlus Professional. So as you consider sending your OrgPlus charts to OnDemand, you should be aware of the differences between the products and how they may affect your organisational chart.

Preserved

ALL of the data within your OrgPlus chart, whether visible or not, will be successfully transmitted to OnDemand. Of course, the entire chart hierarchy is also preserved.

Available in OnDemand, But Not Transferred

  • Conditional Formats - The criteria you have set up in OrgPlus Desktop will be transferred over to OnDemand. However, the application of the conditional formatting criteria to affect the appearance of your org chart will not be preserved. This is because the box formatting available in the Desktop product exceeds that which is available in OnDemand. Upon transferring your chart over to OnDemand, you should review your conditional formatting and choose a visual cue for depicting the condition.
  • Legends - Legends are most often used in conjunction with established conditional formatting criteria and appearance. For that reason, legends are not automatically imported into OnDemand. Legends are easily created within OnDemand, once you have your conditional formatting set up.
  • Box Layout - The Desktop product supports detailed customisation of the box/chart appearance, including line properties, box sizing, box shape, box shadows, box and line colors. To quickly create aesthetically pleasing charts in OnDemand, we have incorporated the concept of themes. Choose one of these professionally designed layouts, and all of these visual attributes are handled for you.
  • Panels - OrgPlus Desktop supports several panel views to present chart data in different ways. Many of these panel views are not available in OnDemand, but the two most useful - profile and tree-view - are easily created after your chart has been transferred.

Not Available in OnDemand

The OrgPlus Desktop includes several advanced features that are not available in OnDemand at this time. These may or may not apply to your chart.

  • Master Page Elements - If you have added a header, footer, company logo, or background color they will not be transmitted to OnDemand.
  • Chart Rules - Rules that apply a branch style based on specific criteria are not supported in OnDemand.
  • Promotion / Demotion - Moving a box higher or lower on the organisational chart without changing the reporting relationships is known as promotion and demotion. Example: 2 VPs and 1 Director report to the CEO. You may want to show the director position on the same visual level as other directors (and below the VPs), but still reporting to the CEO. This feature is not available in OnDemand.
  • Groups - OrgPlus Desktop allows users to define a group and depict that group visually within the org chart. For example, if a group of software developers and a group QA personnel report to the VP of Technology... you may want to show all of the software developers together as a group.
  • Free Floating Objects - If you have added free-floating objects, such as shapes, lines, text boxes, and images to your OrgPlus Desktop chart, these will not be transferred over to OnDemand.
  • Multi-Record Box - Including more than one person or position within a box is not supported by OnDemand. Any boxes containing multiple records will be split into separate boxes automatically.

Final Word

We strongly recommend a quick review of your org chart after you use the send to OnDemand process. In particular, review your formulas and conditional formatting logic before reapplying them to the chart. To instantly create a professional looking chart, choose one of the available themes. Finally, create a profile view and enable legends to produce a chart you are proud to share with others.
